In print

Recognise anything on this magazine page?
Top right, by the number 51?
It's a pine cone fairy!

3 of my projects are featured in the current issue of Creative Steps magazine.
How exciting!

The projects are this lolly stick Rudolph...

...paper pots, Christmas style...

...and of course pine cone fairies. With more glitter than ever. It is the Christmas issue after all.

Seeing my name in print is awesome.

Cross-stitch me

When I was younger, as in 4 years old younger, my Mum made me this bookmark.

She cross-stitched me and four of my friends from playgroup, two of which are still my best friends.

Isn't that nice.

I'm a Barbie girl...

...you know, as opposed to a Cindy kinda gal.
If you now have Aqua stuck in your head; you're welcome.

I've seen a few Barbie related crafty things lately so I thought I would share.
Margaux Lange makes jewellery out of Barbies. The more I look at her blog, the more I love her stuff!

This needle-felted monster by Moxie eats Barbies!

This past Halloween This Mama Makes Stuff made a Barbie zombie graveyard. Creepy.

Send in the clowns

Last Friday was circus night at the SU. I went as a clown. A chic clown. That's right, no big red nose or rainbow afro for me.

The only thing I had to make for my outfit was the hat.

I made a cone out of some card from a cereal box and copied part of the pattern from my dress which I painted with acrylic paint. I stuck a white pom-pom on the top, a strip of slightly ruched felt at the bottom and punched two holes to thread ribbon through to tie it to my head. It stayed on the whole night. Pretty cool right.

Sharpie time

So I told you to check out the tiled floor of my miniature hospital room that I coloured in with a Sharpie, but check out what other people have done with everyones favourite permanent marker.

A lawyer from Kentucky decorated the walls of his basement. See more pictures and read about it here.

A Sharpied Lamborghini. I guess they really will write on anything. Awesome

I didn't know how to make a mini George Clooney

This is how I've finished the miniature hospital room for assessment, though there are a lot of things I could add to it.

The hospital bed is almost all made of wooden kebab sticks painted silver.

Please take a moment to appreciate the hand-Sharpied floor.

...beep...beep...beep...

Making a miniature blood bag is not easy.

Mask party

Last week I went out with my friends to celebrate a birthday and the theme was masquerade, and seeing as we're art students a lot of us made our masks.

I made mine out of felt and I sewed on a string of plastic stars, white ribbon, and a fabric flower, and then glued glitter all over.

My housemate decided to be a silver parrot eagle.

And Natalie had the awesome idea of using 3D glasses for a sophisticated mask.

Is there a doctor in the house??

If you've seen this you probably won't be surprised to learn that the miniature scene I'm currently making is a hospital room. An ER room to be exact.
It's not completely finished yet but here are some sneak peaks.

Blood vials, syringes and other supplies.

A sink and tap, and check out those blinds.

And my favourite part, the phone. It's very similar to the one on ER in the first series. Ive been using a behind-the-scenes book as reference.

New Painting

I thought I'd give landscapes a rest and re-visit portraits or this one. I think I'm a bit rusty with faces, so I may do some more!

Busy Bees

I recently found this in my house. I've no idea where it's from, I don't think me or either of my sisters gave it to my Mum, and besides, Mother's Day was ages ago. While I was wondering where it came from I noticed this little guy.

And I thought, 'I could do that'. So I did.

It's super easy to make and you don't need much.

Just take a black and a yellow pipe cleaner and cut them in half. This means you can make two!
Then wrap them around your finger.

Stick some googly eyes on the fuzzy fella.

Bend a sparkly pipe cleaner into a kind of heart shape for the wings and poke it into the bee's body.

And you're done.
I chose to tie some thread around the wings so I could hang my bee from places.

There's been a murder!

Continuing with my miniature weapons, I made another mini kitchen knife and then went a little Dexter on it. And now it's evidence!

It reminds me of these blood slide candies I saw a couple of week ago for Halloween. They've got the 'ick but awesome' factor.

In a recent tutorial my tutor suggested I watched some CSI as the entire 7th season featured a miniature killer who made miniature versions of the crime scenes before (or after, it's yet to be discovered) committing the murders. I'm only two episodes in but so far it is awesome. Except this model maker used the real blood of their victims in the models. I won't be doing that.

Bunnies, bunnies, it must be bunnies!

My latest painting is bunnies!
Oil on canvas again, cos that's how I roll.

And I couldn't have a post about bunnies without featuring this delight. Enjoy.

Pumpkin fun

I don't usually bother too much with Halloween but this year my sister bought a pumpkin so she could make pumpkin pie. So after she gutted it, I got to carving it. Now, bare in mind I don't do this regularly so my carving skills aren't up to scratch.
I'd seen online the technique of only cutting away some of the pumpkin so you can create a better picture, so that's what I tried with the ghost.

Lights on *clap clap*

Lights off. Spooky.

Here's some alternative pumpkin decorating ideas from around the web. The interweb. Not a creepy spiders web.

I love this sparkly, sequin pumpkin from The Swell Life.

That cool couple over at Young House Love had fun with puffy paint for their pumpkins this year. It's more chic than scary but I like it.
And I think this pumpkin snake from Martha Stewart is worth a mention. Just whoah.
