My first sock creation

I made this little creature out of one pair of socks. I put pipe cleaners in the ears to make them posable!

She is available to buy from the Letchworth Art Centre alongside all her friends.

My Model Room: #14 Laptop, chair and table

So this is where all the blogging happens.
There's the computer table (which usually has more junk on it), my laptop, chair and more pictures on the wall.

I'd been putting off this section of my room because the chair was going to be a challenge. With some wishful sticking and lots of kebab skewers and cocktail stick I managed to come up with something resembling the real thing.

For these pictures I just took photos of the originals, or found them on the internet, and reduced them in size on Word. Then I stuck them to card and covered them in sticky back plastic. There's my Lost cast photo, my signed Ian Somerhalder photo ("Aloha babe you rock!") and a photo of me and Joshua Radin with a signed ticket.

To make my laptop I just used bits of thick card painted black and some shiny silver card. And the website I chose to display on the screen? Facebook of course.

My Model Room: #13 Curtains

At last the windows have curtains. I used the fabric from my actual curtains, the same stuff I used for the duvet cover.

The curtains are permanently open as it would have been too much of a challenge to have them drawn as well. So I used a simple running stitch to gather them at the top.

I also gathered the curtains at the bottom a little as they stuck out too much on their own.

I made this little vase, for one of the flowers that appear throughout my bedroom, by rolling up a piece of sellotape and then gluing it directly to the window sill.

Sleepy Owl Hat

I was shocked the other day when my sister told me she really doesn't like hats with faces. Please tell me I'm not alone in thinking they are the darned cutest things ever!

In addition to my panda hat I now have a sleepy owl hat, and here's how I made it...

I started with a Grandad cardigan, which was kindly donated to me by my Grandad as it had a hole in it.

I cut a section from the back of the cardigan, mine measured approximately 40x25cm to fit my head, and folded it in half and folded over the edges

The cardigan I used had suede pockets and strips down the front so I unpicked them and cut them into smaller strips. I tied these into two bundles for the fringey ears on the hat. These could also be made with felt or another kind of fabric.

Because I was sewing the hat inside out, I put the suede strips through the corners of the hat, with most of them on the inside. I then machine sewed the two sides, but had to hand sew through the suede as it is too thick for the sewing machine.

For the facial features I cut the eyes out of felt and the nose and eyelids from more of the suede. I glued these on with UHU glue and stitched around the edges to make sure they were definitely attached.

I then stitched around the eyes with white wool to create that signature owl look.

C'est fini

Now I'm ready for the impending winter.

Craft stall

On Saturday I had my first craft stall. It was only at a local school's autumn fayre (their spelling, not mine) but it's a start, oui?

The table!
(I'm having a little chuckle because my friend Lizzi is crouching to be the same height as me)

I made a cake stand for the donuts and rings out of paper plates and polystyrene cups. I thought it was pretty nifty.

I had my Mum's crotcheted goodies too.

I made these polaroids using poladroid to show the price and ways of wearing the items, or as I like to call them, 'serving suggestions'.

We also had 20p chocolate cupcakes.
Lizzi was a super table-mate.
Mainly because she bought me a cupcake.

My Model Room: #12 Mirror and more

Here's my mirror and the decorations around it.

There's my handmade montage of people with guitars. I took a photo of the original and reduced the size and the frame is made of matchsticks. The guitar in the top right corner is covered in buttons!

The mirror is jut shiny silver card. The circle stickers are to represent the sports day stickers I've had stuck there for ever. At the bottom I used nail transfers to represent all the different post-it notes I put there.

I bought these flowers from Hobbycraft and have them in a couple of places in my room. To make the miniature versions I cut tiny petals from one of the original petals and then glued a small piece of wire to each of them individually.

I also have them on my wardrobe in these little half pots. I made the original pots with papier mache around a large yogurt pot, but for the miniatures I just folded a small bit of sugar paper.

Words at my fingertips

I don't often paint my fingernails but when I do I like to go for something fun like this. I cut little words out magazine and stick them on my nails.

I start with a coloured layer - usually black cos I'm edgey like that - then a clear coat, stick on the word and then a lot more clear polish so that the paper is completely covered and waterproof.

Here are a couple of other nail art ideas I've recently come across:

Green aliens from The Ramblings of Crazy Woman.

And a cute panda which I saw here.

100th post

This is my 100th blog post!
Which I think is a perfectly good excuse for cake.

I made some plain and some chocolate cupcakes and decorated them with fondant icing, butter cream icing, chocolate spread, sprinkles and chocolate star.

Definitely a nom nom nom moment
A 'noment' if you will.
