Mothers Day

This is my Mum when she was at college.
(Yep, I inherited those crafty genes, and that headscarf)

And this is my Mum and I stuck in my Dad's jacket.

Why the Mum pics?
Because Sunday was Mother's Day in the UK.

My gift was helping!
(It's my Mum's birthday later this week so she's getting actual presents then)
I decided to make up some coupons for various house things that I'll do so she doesn't have to; washing up, cleaning the bathroom, the ironing, the dusting, and even making a cup of tea.
Chore coupons. That's a bit American...how about Housework Vouchers.
Coupons is funner to say.

And like real coupons I've even included term and conditions.
The one for making a cup of tea is 'Dad can have one too'.
It's only fair.

Paper weaving for Mother's Day

This would make a great hand made Mother's Day card. Mums love handmade!
I actually gave my Mum a different card for Mother's Day and this was her birthday card.
Anyhoo, this is how it's made:

First select a bunch of papers. I went for all blue but a mix of different colours could look good too.

Then cut them into small strips.

Cut a shape out of a card. I went for a flower. It's a classic for Mums, right?

Figure out how wide the woven paper area needs to be based on the shape you cut out then line up strips of paper and stick some sellotape across them all at the edge.

Then start weaving.

When you're done secure the paper with sellotape all around the edges and even on the back.

Then stick the paper weaving to the inside of the card.

Your Mum will love it.

Mother's Day

Did all you Brits remember Mother's Day yesterday?
I did, here's the card I gave my Mum.

I drew out the word Mum on the inside and filled it in with pattern. Then I grabbed my craft knife and got to work cutting out all the shapes. I finished it off by sticking some coloured paper behind to make the word show up.
